The brutal cold snap from earlier in the month has delayed the picking of Texas Grapefruits and made things very challenging for growers.
We have had a lot of rain and cold weather in recent weeks,” said Martin Drewry of Paul Obst Farm. “Therefore we have not started picking yet as it has been exceptionally wet.
“Once the weather clears up, we will make a start.
“The rain has made it difficult for equipment to access the fields.”
Cold is not something growers are particularly unfamiliar with, however it’s the timing of this front — this kind of Arctic blast is better suited to December than October.
The market has reacted and prices are currently strong.
