Surprise Spring Snow Blankets Araucanía, Chile

On Tuesday, October 01, a rare blanket of Spring snow surprised the inhabitants of La Araucanía — a region of central Chile (31,842 km²).

The mercury plunged 20C below-the-seasonal-average in some parts with hard, wide-reaching frosts reported in Pucón and Villarrica, and the surrounding area.

Glimpses of the phenomenon were shared on Twitter.

The worst hit region appears to be the Caburgua Lake sector, located east of the Huerquehue National Park, Araucanía where a decent dusting of rare Spring snow was captured on film.

Further biting cold will ravage South America today, Fri, Oct 4 — particularly in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile:
