South Africa’s recent “Record-breaking” Hot Temperature was Invalid admits Weather Service

It turns out that the Northern Cape village of Vioolsdrif did NOT experience the highest ever temperature recorded in South Africa last week, the SA weather service has belatedly admitted.

Vioolsdrif made headlines over the weekend after claims it had endured the hottest SA day ever.

Local Weather Service forecaster Mbavhi Maliage was quick to publicize the reading:

“On Thursday, it reached a new record of 50.1C and then it broke its own record again on Friday by reaching 53.2C, which was rounded off to 54C,” Maliage said.

Rounded off to 54C — what the f*** are you playing at Maliage?

But upon reflection, and a check of the newly installed equipment, those readings of 50.1C and 54C have since been resigned to the overflowing bin of AGW fails. Once again though, I fear the damage has already been done — just as it was with Greenland’s invalid record warmth in August.

UCT climate scientist Dr Peter Johnston has called on service to be more transparent about its invalid readings and exactly how frequently they occur.

The SA weather service issued the following belated & somewhat wishy-washy correction statement:

“Investigations into the data from the station revealed that the temperature sensor had just been replaced two days prior, and a decision was made to track the behavior of the station over the weekend. The analysis of this data showed that the behavior of the temperature sensor was questionable and the preliminary temperature reading of 50.1C as a new record is therefore invalid.”

Clap … clap … clap …

If this is the level of incompetency the official global thermometer record is based on then no wonder it’s giving us a spurious warming trend. And that’s before questioning the vested interests involved, and the complete blind-eye given to the Urban Heat Island effect when compiling the data — a phenomenon Dr Roy Spencer has been “thoroughly convinced” is “exaggerating warming trends.”

Below is a good listen from ‘Today with Kieno Kammies’ where UCT’s Dr Peter Johnston questions the accuracy of SA weather stations (skip to 03:50 for the meat and potatoes).

Dr Johnston: “All we are asking for is some communication. … When that record came out it was all over twitter, all over the internet, the media got hold of it, but when we looked at the data we became suspicious. … The question is, how reliable is the data?”

The cold times are returning in line with historically low solar activity.

NASA has recently revealed this upcoming solar cycle (25) will be “the weakest of the past 200 years,” and they’ve correlated previous solar shutdowns to prolonged periods of global cooling here.

Don’t be fooled by bogus political agendas — our future is one of ever-descending COLD.

  1. Realist

You have to take anything “newsworthy” from South Africa with a pinch of salt.
Like almost everything else over here, that thermometer was corrupt
