September Snow in Sweden: “Earliest in at least 20 Years”
Winter appears to have arrived early in Northern Europe. Fresh on the heels of Siberia’s rathe snow, the powder has now hit Scandinavia where locals in Värmland, Sweden are calling it the earliest snowfall in at least two decades.
According to Swedish news website aftonbladet.se, Värmland’s summer crayfish season may be barely over, yet winter has already arrived in the west-central län.
In north Värmland it snowed all day on Monday, Sept 16, according to local Dan Norström at Långberget’s Sports Hotel, Sysslebäck .
“I’ve been here for almost 20 years,” said Norström, “this is probably the earliest snow.
“When I came [to work] this morning at a quarter past eight, the first flakes came. Now it is white everywhere and has come five to six centimeters.”
It isn’t usually until November, and the arrival of much cooler polar air, when Värmland sees snow totals like these.
