Boler Mountain, Ontario –Canada’s most southerly alpine ski area– opened its slopes to skiers and snowboarders on Saturday, Nov 23.
This year’s opening is the earliest ever for the ski area, thanks to the brutally cold weather experienced over the past few weeks.
“We’ve been able to turn those record cold temperatures into a great base with a record early opening,” said Greg Strauss, part of the management team at Boler Mountain.
Five runs have been opened this weekend, with more expected to follow in the coming weeks.
While the forecast is calling for above zero temperatures during the early part of next, Strauss says they’ve made enough snow to withstand the milder weather. And in any case, another barrel of brutal Arctic air is set to roll into the region from Thursday, Nov 28, and last right-through the following week.
The lower-latitudes are refreezing in line with historically low solar activity.
Yes, a few far-northern areas like Alaska and the Arctic are warming –slightly– but 1) no one lives up there so quite frankly, who cares, and 2) as NASA succinctly identify in their ‘Maunder Minimum Temperature Reconstruction Map’ (below), these regions are expected to warm during periods of global cooling, as are the North Atlantic, Iceland and the southern tip of Greenland:
And regarding any Arctic sea ice melt –and the potential consequences for sea level rise– again, a non-issue — at least 90% of the planet’s ice is safely locked up in Antarctica which, for as long as we can tell, has been steadily advancing, comfortably offsetting the comparatively tiny losses observed at its northern cousin.
Don’t be fooled by bogus political ideologies.
Prepare for the COLD — grow your own.
