M6.5 Earthquake Strikes 10km S of Kairatu, Indonesia

A powerful earthquake, registered by the USGS as M6.5 (downgraded), hit Maluku Island, Indonesia at 23:46 UTC on Sept 25 (08:46 local time, Sept 26) killing at least 3 people. The agency is reporting a depth of 18.2 km (11.3 miles).

The quake was preceded by a M4.4 and followed by two aftershocks — a M5.4 and then a M4.2.

A total of 1.2 million people are estimated to have the shaking.

Reports of damage and causalities are still coming in.

At least 3 people are known to have died, so far — including a man who was killed when a building collapsed at an Islamic university in Ambon.

The geophysics agency has ruled out a tsunami, reports Reuters.

Seismic and Volcanic activity has been correlated to changes in our sun.

The recent global uptick in earthquakes and volcanic eruptions is likely attributed to the drop-off in solar activity, coronal holes, a waning magnetosphere, and the influx of Cosmic Rays penetrating silica-rich magma.
