“Real Beast of a storm” Lorenzo set to batter Britain — early-season-snow expected in Scotland

An already flooded-out Britain is now bracing for ex-hurricane Lorenzo, forecast to arrive on its shores Thurs/Fri this week. This “real beast of a storm” will collide with Arctic air, meaning extra-miserable conditions and even some settling snow in Scotland.

Lorenzo’s track has been uncertain, though confidence is now growing that the worst hit regions will be England, Wales, and N. Ireland, where 90 mph (145 kmh) gales are possible along with torrential rain.

Arctic air will drive temperatures well-below freezing in some exposed northern regions, just as the storm draws in. Early-season-snow has already been falling across the higher elevations of Scotland, and MORE is expected with the arrival of Lorenzo over the coming days.

Met Office forecaster Steven Keates said: “Lorenzo is a real beast of a storm. It will be one of Europe’s strongest ever tropical storms (as the Azores are part of Europe).

“Cold air has been coming in today, with temperatures dropping. There’s a chance of [additional] snow on the tops of the mountains in Scotland, and frost came in overnight into this morning.

“The cold air will be pushed out as Lorenzo comes across the country, meaning a rise in temperatures.”

This rise will return UK temps to around average for the time of year, though only temporarily as yet another polar invasion looks set to engulf the home nations next week:

GFS TEMP ANOMALIES (FRI, OCT 11):

Stay tuned for updates.

The cold times are returning.

Arctic air is being diverted increasingly-far south by a meridional (wavy) jet stream flow, which itself is associated with historically low solar activity.

NASA has said this next solar cycle (25) will be “the weakest of the past 200 years“.

Things are going to get a lot worse before they get any better:

The Oceans are cooling.

The Snowpack is building.

And Global Average Temps are dropping, particularly at the lower latitudes (where us humans reside).
