Following on from what was a record cold Halloween across parts of Newfoundland and Labrador, heavy early-season snow will blast the continental portion of the Canadian Province on Monday, November 2.
As reported by the thetelegram.com, the entire island of Newfoundland is under either wind warnings or special weather statements beginning midday Monday, while parts of Labrador are expecting significant snowfall amounts.
Disruptive early-season snow is on the way for the areas of Nain, Hopedale, Churchill Valley, Upper Lake Melville, Postville, Makkovik and Rigolet — from Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon, as much as 40 cm (1.3 ft) is expected to have accumulated, with higher localized amounts likely.
Strong northerlies will develop Monday evening resulting in reduced visibility and even blizzards over exposed areas.
The snow follows what was a record cold Halloween across central Labrador.
According to Environment Canada, the Badger area –located on the Exploits River– broke a minimum temperature record on Saturday.
The area’s official low of -10C (14F) makes Halloween, 2020 the coldest in recorded history in books dating back to 1956, with this year’s Oct 31 reading eclipsing the old record of -8.9C (16F) from 2001.
Both NOAA and NASA appear to agree, if you read between the lines, with NOAA saying we’re entering a ‘full-blown’ Grand Solar Minimum in the late-2020s, and NASA seeing this upcoming solar cycle (25) as “the weakest of the past 200 years”, with the agency correlating previous solar shutdowns to prolonged periods of global cooling here.
Furthermore, we can’t ignore the slew of new scientific papers stating the immense impact The Beaufort Gyre could have on the Gulf Stream, and therefore the climate overall.
