A record-breaking 10+ day blizzard in the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan (Astana) is persisting, with locals reportedly outraged by the local authority’s response.
January’s snow totals in the city have now surpassed the all-time record for the month set back in Jan 1964 (solar minimum of cycle 19), according to Kazgidromet forecaster, Alua Sakhanova.
“Compared to the longstanding data, such a heavy snowfall was observed 56 years ago in 1964,” Sakhanova said.
1,159 special machinery were mobilized on January 28 for clean up works in the city.
However, Nur-Sultan residents are outraged by the Ministry of Emergencies’ response to the abnormal snowstorm in the capital. It was reported that on the Shchuchinsk-Nur-Sultan highway, more than 150 people spent the whole night trapped in their cars due to a snow-related accident.
In fact, across the Karaganda region, liter.kz is reporting that number of officials and contractors in charge of snow removal have actually been fined for unsatisfactory work.
Emergency rescue operations are continuing across the central Asian nation. On the passes, roads and highways of Kazakhstan, emergency services have saved many hundreds of people from freezing.
The Kazakhstan government recently voted to unblock the state reserve for allocation of snow-clearing equipment to all affected regions. With liter.kz reporting that authorities will also provide additional heating points, medical services, food and fuel, and lubricants–well that’s one way to stay warm.
The lower-latitudes are refreezing in line with historically low solar activity.
NASA has recently revealed this upcoming solar cycle (25) will dip further still, to become “the weakest of the past 200 years,” with the agency correlating previous solar shutdowns to prolonged periods of global cooling here.
Don’t fall for bogus, warm-mongering political agendas — IPCC: “Milder winter temperatures will decrease heavy snowstorms” — the reality is proving somewhat different, isn’t it…
