Flash Flood kills at least five, destroys property in Abeokuta, more rain on the way

Many lives were lost Friday evening following torrential rain and flooding in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital of Nigeria.

Property worth millions of naira were destroyed, many bridges caved in and people were reported trapped in their homes and businesses as the waters rose.

The deluge, which started 4pm and ceased at 8pm, caused river channels in the capital city to overflow their banks.

With torrential rain forecast for this weekend and ALL NEXT WEEK, the situation is likely to worsen further.
