Extreme blizzard conditions descended upon Iceland this week, bringing the country’s autumn to an abrupt end. The Icelandic Met Office strongly advised people to avoid ALL travel until the snowstorm had passed.
The north appears to have been worst hit, buried under heavy, potentially record-breaking snow. While ice has impacted the rest of the country, leading to traffic accidents — particularly in Akureyri.

A weather alert has since been issued for Northern regions, with warnings of further blizzard conditions lasting into the weekend — strong winds, heavy snow, low visibility, and icy roads are all on the cards.
