A deep earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.4 rocked near Namatanai, Papua New Guinea at 14:35 UTC on Feb 17. The agency is reporting a depth of 367.9 km (228.5 miles).
There are some 120,000 people living within 100 km (62 miles).
1.1 million people are estimated to have felt weak shaking.
The USGS issued a green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
Seismic and Volcanic activity has been correlated to changes in our sun.
The recent global uptick in earthquakes and volcanic eruptions is likely attributed to the drop-off in solar activity, coronal holes, and the increase in Galactic Cosmic Rays penetrating silica-rich magma.
