Hurricane “Chris” has weakened to a Tropical Storm. Atlantic Canada is monitoring its progress.
To date, the system’s maximum sustained wind speed is 165 km/h (105 mph) though these have now dropped to 95 km/h (60 mph).
The system is moving NE at 35 km/h (22 mph) with a minimum central pressure of 970 hPa and was originally projected to reach Iceland 2AM Sunday but looks to now be falling just short.
Swells generated by the storm are expected to affect the coasts of North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic states during the next few days.
These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
Chris is still expected to produce total rain accumulations of 25 to 70 mm (1 to 3 inches) over Newfoundland, with possible isolated maximum amounts of 150 mm (6 inches).
Flash flooding is possible.
