Browning, MT Receives a Record-Busting 4-Feet of September Snow — Missoula also sets new All-Time Cold Records

Montana’s Governor Steve Bullock issued an executive order on Sunday, Sept 29 declaring a state of emergency due to the severity of the early season snowstorm that struck the region.

“With an unprecedented winter storm throwing our state a surprise in September, state and local governments are working closely together to protect the health and safety of Montanans and our top priority is making sure that happens,” Bullock said in a news release.

According to the release, the areas hardest hit include Cascade, Flathead, Glacier, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Lincoln, Pondera, and Teton counties and the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. The Blackfeet Indian Reservation, Glacier County, and Pondera County also issued local emergency declarations.

The NWS released blizzard warnings for Glacier, western Teton, western Pondera, and Northern Lewis and Clark counties. Visibility dropped, and drifting powder covered several primary roadways.

The Blackfeet Nation Emergency Operation Center reported a record-smashing 48 inches (4 feet) of snow had fallen in Browning, Montana from Friday evening thru Sunday — a truly staggering total given that the city only expects 59.5 inches throughout the entire year.

Local schools and work places in and around Browning will be closed Monday, KRTV reported.

In addition, the National Weather Service is also reporting historic snow in nearby Missoula.

The city’s new all-time September snowfall, as of Sunday, Sept 29, is now 1.6 inches which beat-out the previous record of 1.5 inches set back in 1934 (solar minimum of cycle 16).

This Sunday also marked Missoula’s snowiest Sept 29 on record.

This winter storm –in September– should be an eye-opener for proponents of CAGW. And the other eye could be opened soon as another early-fall snowstorm looks set to wallop the NW U.S./Central and Southern Canada during the second week of October:
